The simple answer is that there are a few subtle differences, but the two lines are ostensibly the same. Both brands are manufactured by the same parent company and both are built from the same quality materials. Before we answer the burning question of what the differences may be, let’s look at why two very similar brands are available from one manufacturer.

The Legacy of Flagstaff and Rockwood

In the mid-1970s, Rockwood began offering camper trailers for sale. The company which owned Rockwood also began making travel trailers under the Flagstaff name, but the two companies created very different styles and models. Forest River bought both subsidiaries in 1996 and chose to consolidate the products lines.

RV Dealers and Territories

The problem that Forest River faced was that RV dealerships were associated with particular brands of camping trailers for sale. Eliminating either brand could be devastating to the parent company and create unfair hardships for dealers. Instead, Forest River settled on a few key differences to offer variety to customers and restricted sales of the two brands to only one brand per dealership. This allowed Forest River to penetrate additional markets without infringing on any existing client dealers.

The Difference Between Flagstaff and Rockwood

To create more variety for RV buyers, the two brands use different color schemes. This includes exterior colors, interior fabrics, and popup tents. They also feature different sets of body graphics which appeal to different personal preferences, and there are occasional differences in the linoleum flooring and built-in counters.

Below are side by side photo comparisons of each brand.

Interested in the Micro Lite series? The construction is top-quality for both brands, and include proprietary design features such as:

High Gloss Front Cap and Fiberglass Exterior

Patented Aluminum Cage Construction

Tinted Frameless Windows

Enclosed Underbelly

One-Piece Laminated Roof and Walls

Modern Kitchen and Living Appliances

Other Forest River Brands

Forest River, the parent company of Flagstaff and Rockwood, also owns other well-known brands, including Coachmen and Palomino which offer completely different floorplans and designs. Keep in mind that all brands owned by Forest River may share common appliances or other construction materials. Additionally, Forest River owns both Viking and Clipper, which share identical floorplans and model designs the same way that Flagstaff and Rockwood are identical.

As proud Flagstaff RV dealers, Nohr’s RV Center is well versed in the similarities between the two brands. Although the model number will vary slightly, any design or floorplan found in a Rockwood camper is also available in one of our Flagstaff models.
